Adding Additional Instructions to a Prescription

You can create an Additional Instructions label for a prescription when the instructions are too long to fit on a regular prescription label. The Additional Instructions are retained when the prescription is rebilled, refilled and reauthorized.

The Additional Instructions print on an extra vial copy and the phamacy's copy prints on the Patient Care portion of the label set, or in the upper right corner of the label set (if set to 'Additional Instructions' in Label Preferences).

To add additional instructions to a prescription, do the following:

  1. Open a prescription in Rx Detail.
  2. Press the Rx > Add'l Instructions. The Additional Instruction Label window opens.
  3. In the Additional Text field, type in the instructions using SIG codes and/or full words.

Note: The Half Label Set allows up to 320 characters.

  1. To view a preview of the Additional Instructions label, press the Preview button. The label is shown under Label Preview.

Note: The label preview is shown in English. However, if you used a SIG code, the label will be printed in the patient's language (provided the SIG has a translation entered in List Maintenance).

  1. If you make changes in the Additional Text field, press Preview again to view the revisions.
  2. Press the OK button.
