Filling Blister or Dosett Prescriptions
Prerequisite: To fill a Blister or Dosett prescription, the Blister Patient or Dosett flag needs to be turned on in the patient preferences. For more information, see Setting Up Blister or Dosett Patients.
Once a patient is flagged as a Blister Patient or a Dosett Patient in patient preferences, the Blister window will open in Rx Detail when a prescription is opened for the patient. The layout of Rx Detail differs slightly for retail and non-retail patients, but both types of prescriptions provide areas to enter breakfast, noon, supper and bedtime dosages. Dosett/Blister Options provides the ability to allocate the medication to a specific Dosett/Blister card, as well as to select specific days for dosages.
To Fill a Blister or Dosett Prescription:
- Create a new or refill prescription.
- The prescription opens in Rx Detail, displaying the Dosett/Blister box in the centre of the tab. The Blister or Dosett flag will be selected (depending on the flag turned on in patient preferences).
- If you do not want to include the prescription in the Blister report or Dosett report (e.g. for inhalers), deselect the Blister or Dosett flag.
- In the Bkf, Noon, Sup and/or Bed fields, type the number of tablets or capsules to be dispensed at each dosing time.
- Optional: To allocate the prescription to a specific Blister report or Dosett report (other than the Regular default report), or to select specific days for the Blister report or Dosett report, select the magnifying glass icon in the Dosett/Blister box. This opens the Administration Details window.
- Specify any applicable options in the Administration Details window.
- When finished, select OK.
- Proceed to filling the prescription by selecting the Fill button.
- When the prescription is filled, a prompt may ask, "Do you want to print a complete label set for this prescription?".
- Select Yes if you want a full label set for the prescription. If this is a retail prescription, a complete retail label set prints. If this is a non-retail prescription, the appropriate monthly or daily label set prints.
- Select No to print a file copy for the prescription. If this is a non-retail monthly prescription or a non-narcotic drug, nothing will print since a file copy is not generated for monthly non-narcotic prescriptions.
Tip: If you do not want this prompt to appear, suppress labels for Blister or Dosett prescriptions using the Device Labels list.
