Doctor Merging Tips

TIP 1: To prevent deleted addresses

Before merging, clean up the Remove Doctor’s folder by clearing any addresses that are duplicates of the Target Doctor’s addresses. A Clear Address function button in Address tabs 2 through 4 allows you to quickly delete an address. The Primary Address cannot be cleared - to clear the primary address, change the Remove Doctor’s primary address to a different address and then clear the address.

To access the Remove Doctor’s folder from the Doctor Merge window: search for and select the Remove Doctor, then press the expand button located to the right of the Doctor field. The doctor’s folder opens. Make any changes, then press the OK action button to save changes and close the folder.

TIP 2: What is the doctor’s primary address?

The primary address is set in the doctor’s folder. Any populated address can be set as the primary - it defaults to Address 1. To change the primary address, open the doctor’s folder; go to the Address 1 tab; make a selection from the Primary Address dropdown list. Select the Save or OK button to save the changes.

TIP 3: To clean up a doctor’s folder after a merge

If a doctor has duplicate addresses after a merge, go to the Doctor navigator button. Search for and select the doctor. Check the doctor’s address tabs. Use the Clear Address button in the address tab(s) to delete duplicate addresses. Select the Save button to save changes.

TIP 4: A Doctor Merge cannot be performed when...

  • A prescription for either doctor is open in Rx Detail on any workstation. To determine which workstation, go to the Workbench In Process tab and scroll to the right side of the screen until you see the Workstation column. Go to that workstation and remove the prescription from Rx Detail.
  • An activity for either doctor is In Process. To determine which workstation, go to the Activities In Process tab and scroll to the right side of the screen until you see the Workstation column. Go to that workstation and complete or close the activity.
  • The doctor is open in the Doctor folder. A prompt indicates the workstation(s) on which the doctor is open. Go to the workstation(s) and press the Doctor navigator button. Press ALT F4 on the keyboard to close the Doctor navigator button.

TIP 5: When a merge is in process...

Data linked to either doctor cannot be accessed from other workstations. Prescriptions cannot be created for either doctor; activities linked to the doctors cannot be processed, etc... A prompt prevents users from accessing the doctors during the merge.
