Updating a Doctor's License Number
When submitting claims to Third Parties, it is necessary to use the correct Physician ID Reference (i.e. the Prescriber Type in the Doctor Folder) and the correct Physician ID Number (i.e. the License # in the Doctor Folder).
Claims may be rejected if either of these values are incorrect. To minimize the number of rejected claims, it is recommended that the correct License Number and Prescriber Type be entered for the doctors in your database.
- Prescriber Type: The type of license held by the doctor. For example, Provincial Medical Board of Nova Scotia means that the doctor is licensed to practice medicine in the province of Nova Scotia.
- License #: The doctor's license number as assigned by the appropriate provincial regulatory board. If you don't know the license number, look it up on the provincial physician website or websites for nurse practioners and midwives.
For reference purposes, the License # prints on the label's File Copy, in square brackets beside the doctor's name.
Note: When the Prescriber Type or License # is not known, some third parties will accept Other as the Prescriber Type. Do not use Not Available for the Prescriber Type.
