Viewing Interchangeable Drugs

The Drug Interchangeables window is used for generic substitution and lists all DINs within an interchangeable group.

The Drug Interchangeables window can be accessed from Rx Detail by selecting Rx action Interchangeables. It also appears during Rx Detail evaluation when you are not dispensing the lowest priced interchangeable, or DT Enterprise stores are not dispensing the Primary to Secondary generic selection.

Interchangeable drugs can be substituted for one another in a prescription. When you process a prescription, PharmaClik Rx notifies you if a lower-priced interchangeable exists. Accepted interchangeables for a drug are based on the provincial formulary. The Drug Trading Enterprise program allows interchangeables.

To view interchangeable drugs from the Drug Folder, do the following:

  1. Search for and select a Drug Folder.
  2. Select the Alternatives tab. The drug's interchangeables are shown.

    3. Note: The lowest priced interchangeables are highlighted in red.

  1. To view more information about an interchangeable, highlight the interchangeable and press .

    2. Note: For independent pharmacies, the Enterprise column indicates if the interchangeable is eligible under the Enterprise program; the checkbox will be selected if the drug is eligible.

To view interchangeable drugs from the Drug Search window, do the following:

  1. On the toolbar, press the Drug button. The Drug Search window appears.
  2. In the upper part of the Drug Search window, enter full or partial information in any of the columns (Generic Name, Trade Name, DIN/PIN, Strength, Mfr, or Form).
  3. In the Drug Search window, press the Search button. A list of drugs matching your search criteria appears in the bottom part of the window.
  4. Highlight a drug in the list and press the Interchangeables button. The Drug Interchangeables window appears. For each interchangeable, the generic name, trade name, DIN or PIN, strength, manufacturer, and form is shown.
  5. To open an interchangeable drug, highlight a drug in the Drug Interchangeables window and press the OK button. In the Drug Search window, press the OK button to open the drug's folder.

To view interchangeable drugs from the RX Detail window, do the following:

  1. Open the prescription in Rx Detail.
  2. Press the Rx button
  3. Press Interchangeables.
